Chemistry Meetings: Flights to Mars, an Example of Circular Economy

A France Chimie and Novachim event at Mas d’Entremont, Aix-en-Provence, held after the organising partners’ General Assembly meetings. The session set out the resource demands of long-duration space missions, around 5 kg per person per day for metabolic needs and 20 kg per person for hygiene water, and presented MELiSSA’s approach to building an artificially closed ecosystem that recycles waste into oxygen, water and food.
